Links for SEO: 5 Tasks to be done Everyday

seo101 build links1 Links for SEO: 5 Tasks to be done EverydayKeeping your site optimized for search engines is a hard-working task. But the fruit of its labor will certainly propel you the extra mile. Following these simple five link related tasks will help you have the edge over others with regards to SEO.

  • Managing your links:-

Check and make sure that none of your links are dead, or that there are links in your site linking to others that you do not know about. Having a large number of links may make it unmanageable. Stay in control of your links by getting rid of anything that is not relevant. Also make sure that your links are sufficiently labeled to reflect the page that they link to.

  • Re-ordering your links:-

If you have a high number of links it always helps to put them up in categories. You may start making a directory of some sort also for the same purpose. This can even help you in getting more links to your site in exchange for back links on the directory that you have created. Make sure that you check the back-links. If you are linking to a site and the back-link back to your site is dead, it is of no use for you to keep having that link.

  • Email requests for your links:-

If you get a request for link exchanges try to respond quickly. Not every mail you receive will be a good one, and you should make sure to check any site that wants you to link to it. Make sure that you inform the webmaster the reason if you have decided to decline the offer. The reason being very simple, you might know something that they don’t. Providing them with the information will help them fix it and who knows, perhaps become an excellent link partner for you in near future. It is common curtsey to inform the web master as to whether or not you are willing to exchange links within two or three days of receiving a request. Try sending a personalized message to the webmaster with your answer, which is more impressive.

  • Check link exchange forums:-

This is almost similar to the above but in this case it is sometimes more difficult to keep a track of all the people who can potentially request links from your site. What should be remembered is that there can be a lot of spam on these kinds of things with very useless stuffs.  If you ever come across such a site or forum member, inform them of your problem with what they are doing and report them to a moderator/administrator if they do not correct their behavior. It is important because if these kinds of forums are not kept clean they would be considered as link farms by search engines instead of a simple link exchange forum.

  • Check features of your site:-

You should do this on a daily basis to make sure that they are working properly. Any messages that are generated on the fly must be generated at the appropriate time. In a quality dynamic site all content is delivered at the right time and everything should seem static and planned out.

Taking some time out for your website is crucial. Make sure that you do whatever you can do for it each day. Updates are crucial so keep adding anything new that you find, because updating regularly will keep search engines coming back to spider more often.

  • A few ways for Link Checks:

Agreeing to link to someone’s site without asking for a link in exchange, might be a big mistake.  You should think twice before accepting such offers even if they offer to pay you. Also to rank higher in search engines make sure that all your links, incoming as well as outgoing should be related to and relevant your site.

There is a widely mistaken belief that by stopping search engines from indexing the link pages they can stop the outbound links from counting against them. They use robots.txt for that purpose. To check a site, retype their URL with robots.txt on the end (for example, http://www.website.com/robots.txt). If you see that the site is ‘Disallow’-ing its link pages its better not to exchange links with that site.

Also check the sites Page Rank. You should look at how it drops between the front page and the links page. Keep in mind that new pages take a while to get ranked, so a Zero Page Rank doesn’t necessarily mean a site that will never have any Page Rank.

Check your requester’s site’s pages. If there are a number of links in one page, say, more than 20, its better to avoid such sites. A lot of webmasters collect links with the wrong notion that it helps their rankings. Some of them may even include big spam industries, like casinos and adult content. So its better to avoid having a link from a site that takes links from just anyone.

  1. Is there no equivalent keyword plugin for blogger?

  2. Are you talking about KeywordLuv? If yes, I fear it might not be there. Take my suggestion. Since you recently started blogging, keep doing it with Blogger and then once you get the flow, move to a self hosted WordPress blog. There’s so much that you can do with wordpress. For now concentrate on writing wonderful posts and building backlinks. That will help you in the long run.

    Thanks for commenting.

    • Doesn’t Google punish you for paid links and link exchanges?

      • There are no evidences of google punishing for link exchanges. It is just that if it is a two-way link exchange, then google does not give importance much to those links. But if it is a 3 way link exchange then it is definitely going to help you. And as far as paid links are concerned, many SEO experts say that is not good in the eyes of google. But then what about advertisements? They are also a kind of paid links right. So, logically I don’t think that google will punish for paid links. Hope that helps.

    • Hi,

That advice seems to be universal. Everybody says Blogger is great for beginners but there’s nothing like WordPress.

Yes, I am focused on my own content and design. I spend a lot of time blog walking too.

      • WordPress is definitely good. But remember “With great power, comes responsibility”. With a self hosted WordPress blog, you have the full control in your hands and with that comes the headache to manage everything yourself. You cannot rely on your designer/programmer always. So it is always good to be a little technology literate.

Great phrase used – “Blog Walking”. Thats a very good thing to do. You get a lot of ideas and information doing so.

  3. Amazing article, very detailed. It’s always a good idea to keep our sites clean and clutter-free, links that have no use should be taken off since it is not helping us in any way. Also having to check the quality of links must always be a priority to us all.
